Projects

Collaborative Mini Grants
We know our community, and we know that there are many individuals and groups already doing important work to meet the most critical needs of Nacogdoches County Residents.
That’s why Better Together is excited to announce that we are launching a Request for Proposals for collaborative efforts that address mental health and wellness as described in our Common Agenda.
This RFP kicks off with our Collaboration Summit on September 23, 2025. Click to learn more!
Education Series
Better Together and Nacogdoches Area United Way are pleased to bring a series of workshops to Nacogdoches County leaders to sharpen their toolkits. We know that there are so many groups doing great work throughout Nacogdoches County, and we want to equip those groups with the skills and resources they need to be able to bring about the greatest possible positive impact for Nacogdoches County residents. Mental Health Crisis Committee
This committee was formed in the summer of 2023 to address Common Agenda goal 3 related to the issues arising from the intersection of mental health and the criminal justice system. Our Nacogdoches County Jail is over-populated and a high percentage of inmates struggle with mental health challenges. This is a complex issue affecting our entire community.
Using the Appreciative Inquiry approach we have been interviewing key stakeholders involved with this issue including Burke, Nacogdoches City Police, Nacogdoches County Jail, clinicians in private practice, hospital administration, Nacogdoches County Court System, among others.
Our goal is to bring everyone back together for a round table discussion to agree on specific interventions we can all agree to implement.
Futures in Focus
Formerly known as “Gateway To Your Future”, this hands-on career exploration event gives Nacogdoches County students the opportunity to explore high demand careers by hands-on activities like practicing drawing blood on a fake arm, practicing plumbing on a real toilet, and other fun, engaging opportunities.
2025 brings a whole new look and a new name to this event! We are excited about the addition of SFA as a sponsor and host for the event, in partnership with Better Together, Workforce Solutions, and SFA’s Center for Entrepreneurship. On October 22, 2025, we will invite one thousand 8th graders from Nacogdoches County and beyond to explore careers that are high-paying and in high-demand in East Texas through hands-on experiences and person-to-person connections with employers, community colleges, and SFA faculty.
